- 1.5 Cups cooked chickpeas (canned or soaked overnight and boiled)
- 1 Medium potato, boiled, peeled, and diced (optional)
- 1 Small onion, finely chopped
- 1 Medium tomato, diced
- 1 Small cucumber, diced
- 1 Green chili, finely chopped (optional, for heat)
- 2 Tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1-2 Tbsp lemon juice (adjust to taste)
- 2-3 Tbsp tamarind chutney (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 Tsp chaat masala (key spice blend)
- ½ Tsp roasted cumin powder
- ¼ Tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- ¼ Tsp black salt (or regular salt to taste)
- Pomegranate seeds or ginger juliennes (optional, for freshness)
1. Prep the Chickpeas:
If using dried chickpeas, soak overnight, then boil until tender. Canned chickpeas should be rinsed thoroughly.
In a large bowl, mix chickpeas, boiled potato
(if using), onion, tomato, cucumber, and
green chili.
Sprinkle chaat
masala, cumin powder, red chili powder, black salt, and a pinch of regular
salt. Toss gently.
Drizzle lemon
juice and tamarind chutney Adjust sweetness/tanginess to your preference.
Add half the coriander and mix lightly. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Transfer to a serving dish. Top with pomegranate seeds, ginger, and remaining coriander.
